Vice presidential candidate and Senator Kiko Pangilinan called on the government to immediately implement a price freeze in the areas affected by Typhoon Odette.
According to Pangilinan, this way, it will be ensured that the people can buy the products at the current price and will not have to spend extra money in the midst of their condition.
With the help of the price freeze, the exploitation of some corrupt traders to make money and take advantage of the situation will also be prevented.
“Sinalanta na ng bagyo ang mga kababayan natin, huwag na silang mabiktima pa ulit ng mataas na presyo ng bilihin,” said Pangilinan.
Based on Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act, price control is automatically enforced if there is a declaration of a state of calamity or emergency.
But Pangilinan urged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) not to wait for the declaration of local government units and immediately implement a price freeze in large areas affected by the typhoon.
Pangilinan further stressed that the government must act quickly to ensure the welfare of the people and ensure that they have access to their needs, especially to the families who lost everything due to the floods.
