Pregnant woman gives birth prematurely after being raped by teenager

A woman is still recovering in the hospital after being raped by a teenager in the town of Echague, Isabela.

The suspect was temporarily hidden under the name Cris, 17 years old. At the same time, the victim was also temporarily hidden under the name Lea, 27 years old, pregnant, married, and a fellow resident of Dicaraoyan, Echague Isabela.

The victim was raped at around 10:15 am. Earlier, the victim was asked by her husband to buy ice and while walking, she met the suspect.

When she arrived at the banana tree, the suspect took advantage of the absence of people around and pushed the victim, then laid her down and carried out the rape.

After the incident, the victim immediately reported to the barangay officials, so a hot pursuit operation was launched against the suspect, resulting in his arrest.

The victim was immediately taken to Echague District Hospital due to continuous bleeding in her genitals for immediate treatment before being transferred to Southern Isabela Medical Center or SIMC in Santiago for a surgical operation.

The victim is now recovering at the hospital with her baby, who is in good condition.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the police for the relevant documentation and proper disposition while the rape case is being prepared.


Bulusan evacuee in Juban positive for COVID-19

A resident of Juban, Sorsogon, who fled due to the eruption of the Bulusan Volcano has been confirmed to have COVID-19, a local health official said Wednesday.

The evacuee had previously tested positive for antigen, but his confirmatory RT-PCR test was also positive.

The condition of 2 senior citizens who are close contacts of the evacuee is being monitored.

Meanwhile, the eruption of the Bulusan Volcano has affected the tourism industry in some areas in Sorsogon, such as Bulusan town.

According to Bulusan tourism officer Veronica Gallanosa, as long as no notice is issued that they can open, resorts and attractions within the 6-kilometer extended danger zone of the volcano will remain closed.

But it is said that the sights outside the danger zone are open.
