A police officer has been relieved of his post after five prisoners escaped while he was sleeping on duty in Koronadal City, southern Mindanao.
The prisoners sawed off the iron grill of the prison cell they were being held in before dawn on Monday, while officer Teofilo Toledo was fast asleep in his chair.
Koronadal City Mayor, Peter Miguel, said the escaped prisoners are prominent personalities in the illegal drug trade in the area.
