Two shooters were caught on camera fatally hitting Gloria Atilano, aged 60, and Arman Bautista, 55, in the head and neck. Allan Delos Santos, one of the shooters, was apprehended on November 20.

He provided key details about his role in the crime and made a voluntary confession outside of court. On December 11, a legal complaint for double homicide was filed against Delos Santos and four others at the Nueva Ecija Prosecutor’s Office.

Delos Santos identified Atilano’s son as the brain behind the attack, claiming they were each paid P60,000 to commit it. Prior to detaining the shooters, police already suspected Atilano’s son due to a prior car theft complaint from the victim, which led to his arrest and subsequent bail.

The son stated that he and his mother had reconciled, urging the public to reserve judgment. He is presently facing charges of killing a family member.

Meanwhile, on September 18, Senator Risa Hontiveros charged the Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc., a religious collective, with grave offenses, including rape, sexual assault, child labor, and coercing minors into marriage. She claims that over a thousand children in Socorro, Surigao del Norte are victims.

Led by the 23-year-old Jey Rence Quilario, also known as Senior Agila, this group has around 3,560 members, which include 1,587 kids living in Sitio Kapihan, Socorro. Ex-members say Quilario has been leading since 2017, claiming to be the Holy Child in human shape. Post-2019 quake, they’ve settled in the remote Sitio Kapihan, Bucas Grande’s hills.

Quilario and group leaders were charged with coercing women and children into marriages with obligatory sex and organizing armed groups with unlicensed guns.
