The forces of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are intensifying their pursuit of former Maimbung Vice Mayor Pando Mudjasan and his other colleagues.
According to PNP Police spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, based on the information they gathered, Mudjasan’s group has not yet left Sulu.
They are also intensifying the manhunt operations because they gathered information that Mudjasan’s group is allegedly recruiting armed individuals to become members of the potential armed group.
Fajardo insisted that these Private Armed Groups (PAGs) could be used in the upcoming elections.
“Base sa information na binigay sa atin nung RD ng PRO BAR ay ito nga grupo ni Mudjasan ay mga estimated nila mga 50 ito at kasama na nga diyan yung mga nirerecruit nila allegedly na mga armed civilians at gagamitin at posibleng magamit sa palapit na BSKE nitong Oktubre kaya kinoconsider na itong grupo ni Mudjasan as potential PAGs,” he said.
“Base sa information na shinare sa atin ay dati itong miyembro ng MNLF. Subalit he was already disowned by the said group dahil sa kanyang involvement doon sa mga nasabi ko pong krimen. At allegedly ay nagkakanlong din ito ng mga ASG supporters at bina-validate natin ngayon ang information na during the incident ay may mga kasama siyang miyembro ng Abu Sayyaf. So all of these are being validated by our forces on the ground,” added Fajardo.
Apart from the election, he said it is also possible that PAGS can be used in other illegal activities. Hence, they are not complacent and are intensifying the search for their Mudjasan group.

“Alam natin na yung ganitong mga potential PAGs ay hindi lamang sa election nagagamit but more so kapag sa mga ganitong election. ‘Yung mga individual at grupo na may mga political interests ay ginagamit talaga ito para mang-harass ng mga botante, impluwensiyahan at minsan nga po ay nagkakaroon pa ng failure of elections,” said Fajardo.
“Subalit isa mga insidenteng ito hindi lamang ito limited sa eleksyon. Nagagamit din sila sa mga ordinary crimes katulad ng kidnapping, other crimes, kaya ayaw natin lumaki ang grupo na ito at magamit ng mga ibang grupo. At in fact, isa doon sa mga information na provided sa atin na maliban dito sa pagkakanlong niya ng mga Abu Sayyaf members and supporters ay meron pa itong kinakanlong din na mga identified drug personalities,” he added.
According to PNP data, of the 45 PAGs they identified, more than 80% are in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
