PNP in Central Luzon releases list of prohibited fireworks

A few days before Christmas, the Philippine National Police released the list of prohibited fireworks.

Prohibited fireworks include the following:

  • Bin Laden
  • Boga
  • Coke-In-Can
  • Giant Bawang
  • Giant Whistle Bomb
  • Goodbye Bading
  • Goodbye De Lima

  • Goodbye Philippines
  • Hello Columbia
  • Kabasi
  • Kwitos
  • Large Size Judas Belt
  • Lolo Thunder
  • Mother Rockets
  • Piccolo
  • Pillbox
  • Pla-Pla
  • Poppop
  • Super Lolo
  • Super Yolanda
  • Watusi

All oversized and overweight fireworks and pyrotechnic devices (FCPDs), imported finished products, other unlabeled locally made FCPDs products, and other types of fireworks with another brand or name equivalent to those prohibited are also not allowed are also banned.

“Because of the pandemic, kailangan din nilang kumita on one hand. And on the other, gusto rin naming sundin nila ’yung mga allowable firecrackers and pyrotechnic within the limits provided by the law,” explained Police Regional Office 3 Director Police Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay.

Meanwhile, the sale and use of the following fireworks are controlled:

The sale and use of the following pyrotechnic devices or lighting are permitted:

  • Butterfly
  • Fountain
  • Jumbo Regular and Special
  • Luces
  • Mabuhay
  • Roman Candle
  • Sparklers
  • Trompillo
  • Whistle Device

“They promised that they will police themselves, lalong lalo na ’yung mga nagbebenta ng illegal na paputok because initially mayroon nang mga nahuhuli sa Metro Manila and that we don’t want to happen dito sa Central Luzon because traditionally ang mga paputok it’s being sold in Bocaue,” said Baccay.

Authorities are increasingly encouraging community firework displays in local government units.

He said the COVID-19 protocols must still be followed and should only be held in designated areas for the safety of all.

The Department of Health reported 50 fireworks-related injuries from 21 December 2020 to 1 January 2021, with no cases of firework ingestion nor death said. Of the 50 injuries, 49 were fireworks-related injuries, and 1 was a stray bullet injury. This is 85% lower than the 340 total cases reported last year. Likewise, this year’s number of cases is 89% lower than the five-year average (2015-2019).
