Pinay nurse who died in Israel chose not to leave her patient

A local official in Jerusalem is very impressed with the greatness of the Pinay nurse who was among the casualties in the attack by the militant group Hamas in Israel. Even though the Pinay had a chance to run away, she did not, and instead accompanied her old patient, who died with her after they were shot.

In a report by Jasmin Gabriel-Galban of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on GMA News “24 Oras” this Thursday, Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan Nahoum said Angeline Aguirre showed “unimaginable honor in the face of evil”.

Aguirre and his patient died after Hamas managed to enter the bomb shelter they were hiding in and shot them there.

Aguirre was one of the two Filipinos who were confirmed dead in the Hamas attack on Israel last Saturday.

“Despite having a chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks, Angeline showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas,” according to Nahoum.

Aguirre is a native of Binmaley, Pangasinan, who was found to have just gotten married in the Philippines last month. Aguirre only stayed in the country for a week and immediately returned to Israel to work.

“Napakasakit. Di ko matanggap. Kahit na sinong magulang, hindi niya matatanggap na mawawalan sya ng anak,” said the nurse’s mother Erlinda.

“Ang gusto kong mangyari ay maiuwi agad ang anak ko,” she pleaded.

Erlinda even talked to her daughter on October 6, who expressed concern about the chaos in Israel.

A day after that, the Hamas attack happened. The family learned about Aguirre’s sad fate from Erlinda’s other son in Israel.

It is said that the local government, even the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, is contacting Aguirre’s family regarding the assistance they will need.

Aguirre’s husband also hopes his spouse’s remains will be brought home soon.

Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that the repatriation flight is being prepared for overseas Filipino workers who were affected by the unrest in Israel and the remains of two Filipinos who died in an attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
