PHLPost warns the public regarding email scams

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has warned the public about a scam that uses the name of their office to defraud.

According to PHLPost, the public should be critical and not just believe text or email messages that say they have a parcel to pick up at the office.

“Ilang beses na kaming nakatanggap ng tawag o kaya mensahe through social media at sa amng mga customer service agents na merong nag email sa kanila na merong silang expected parcel na ike-claim sa post office gamit ang aming official email at meron din ‘di umano na P14 na babayaran,” said Alvin Fidelson, information officer of PHLPost in an interview with TeleRadyo Tuesday morning.

Fidelson said the email included a link that the victim must click in order to proceed with the transaction.

“Doon na siguro gagawin nung impostor na yun yung kanilang modus,” he says, like getting information on the victim.

He also said that their Management Information Service is already gathering other information to complete the details before they report it. They are also investigating whether there was also a breach in their email account.

“Since 2019 o last year, may mga modus na po iba-iba ang gimmick. Meron siyang gimmick gamit yung logo namin na nagsasabi na nanalo po sila ng iPhone o Samsung na pwede nilang i-claim sa post office. Meron nagpupunta sa aming tanggapan para i-claim pero bogus naman po, wala naman kaming contest o advertisement na ganun,” he said.

He advised the public that they can track their expected parcel by calling the hotline numbers of the post office: 8-527-0111 or 8-527-1007.

PHLPost is a government-owned and controlled corporation responsible for providing postal services in the Philippines. The Philippine Postal Corporation has in excess of 8,000 employees and runs more than 1,355 post offices nationwide.
