COVID-19 in Philippines worse than India, Indonesia – OCTA

The OCTA Research Group believes that it doesn’t if the Philippines is opened to other countries that were previously under travel ban because the situation in the Philippines is worse now compared to India, Indonesia, and others.

This is the reaction of Dr. Guido David of OCTA to the government’s decision to lift the travel ban in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The Bureau of Immigration is scheduled to implement it this Monday.

“Actually, tayo na nga ang isa sa pinakamataas na kaso sa Asia. Ibig sabihin baka sila na matakot dito galing India or even Pakistan, mga 4,000 na lang ata sila per day,” said David.

If there is anything to fear, David said it is the citizens of such a country because our situation is supposedly worse than theirs.

But David still insisted that the government should not lower their surveillance of our borders and entry of travelers from other countries.

The national government must pay close attention to the quarantine of those arriving in the country so that individuals with the virus, especially the more dangerous variants, will not be exposed to it.

It will be recalled that there are 200,000 daily cases of COVID-19 in India, which is currently at only 40,000 now.

Pakistan, meanwhile, had 3,000 new cases as of September 3, and the number of active cases continues to decline.

The OCTA Research Group also believes that there will be up to 30,000 new cases of COVID-19 per day in the Philippines next week due to the continuing outbreak of the Delta variant in the country.

“Maaring umabot tayo ng 30,000 sa buong Pilipinas by end of September sa trajectory, pero di namin nakikita ang 43,000 sa Metro Manila alone,” said Dr. Guido David.

“It could happen baka today or tomorrow. Nandyan ang possibility, definitely by next week mukhang mahihigitan natin yan,” he added.
