Ambitious plans are underway to make the Philippines more accessible for disabled travellers.
Helen Catalbas, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism (DOT) said they were committed to creating a ‘barrier-free’ tourism industry.
DOT, along with the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulations the National Council on Disability Affairs will conduct a two-day seminar workshop on November 17 and 18, 2014, at the Hotel del Rio in Iloilo City.
Ms Catalbas said the seminar aimed to provide information on accessible tourism and create awareness in the industry in dealing with the needs of disabled people.
The seminar will perform sensitivity training related to blind and deaf people, as well as the elderly.
The event will also explore ways to make tourism establishments accessible for everyone.
