PH secures 40 million Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines

According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, the Philippines, and Pfizer signed an agreement for the country’s purchase of 40 million doses of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Galvez, this is the largest vaccine procurement in the country this year.

Galvez said the vaccines are expected to arrive starting in August and will be distributed to all regions.

Galvez advised local government units to be prepared, especially since the temperature requirement for Pfizer vaccines is at -60 to -80 degrees Celsius.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows emergency use of ’s COVID-19 vaccines for a wider range of minors.

This was confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) with the issuance of a revised emergency use authorization (EUA) of the drug.

“The Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine shall be administered only by vaccination providers, and used only to prevent COVID-19 in individuals ages 12 and older,” FDA said.

As a result of the supply agreement, up to 113 million dozen different brands of COVID-19 vaccine have been secured by the country.

The COVAX Facility has also promised 44 million doses of vaccine to be given to the Philippines this year.

The government is still negotiating to procure 16 million doses of Novavax and Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

Meanwhile, vaccination of the A5 priority group or the poor using Pfizer vaccines began this Sunday in Valenzuela City.

51,000 members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in Valenzuela are included in A5, but some have been stabbed because they are senior citizens or ill.

The city targets to vaccinate up to 800 indigent residents per day.

“Marami sa 4Ps ang hindi techie… We have staff going around, teaching them how to download,” said Dorothy Evangelista, head of the city social welfare office in Valenzuela.

The Philippines targets a population of 58 million before the end of the year.

As of June 18, more than 8 million twelve had been administered by the country.

With the arrival of more vaccines, it is expected that up to 500,000 will be vaccinated in the country per day in the third quarter of the year and 740,000 per day in the fourth quarter.
