PGH to accept any COVID-19 vaccine brand – exec

The director of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) said Thursday the hospital is ready to accept any COVID-19 vaccine brand.

“Kung anuman ang unang bakunang darating ay tatanggapin namin at ang aming batayan sa pagtatanggap nito ay ang EUA (emergency use authorization) na ibibigay ng ating FDA (Food and Drug Administration),” he said in a virtual briefing.

“We all know that if the FDA gives any vaccine the EUA, the safety and efficacy are assured,” he added.

Malacañang announced Thursday that the 600,000 doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive in the country on Sunday, February 28.

“Inaasahan na darating sa araw ng Linggo, itong Linggong ito, ang Sinovac. Kaya excited na tayong lahat,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced in a press briefing.

“Inaasahan at least ang pinaplano natin ay sasalubungin ng mga opisyal ang pagdating ng mga bakuna,” he added.

Roque added the vaccination roll-out could begin the following day.

“If it arrives on Sunday, if I’m not mistaken, then we can roll out on Monday dahil excited na ang maraming kababayan natin,” he said.

The director of PGH said the hospital prepared the infrastructure and logistical requirements for the COVID-19 vaccines.

“I think the important thing to remember here is whatever vaccine comes, we should welcome it because it will definitely make a difference in helping control the spread of this infection,” he said.

Legaspi earlier said that 94% of PGH’s workers are willing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

However, he clarified that the employees had Pfizer vaccines in mind at the time since the 117,000 doses from the American manufacturer were supposed to arrive in mid-February.

“Bago pa man po malaman ng mga tao ng PGH noong early January kung anong bakuna ang darating, ang aming initial survey… 75% are willing to have the vaccine, so I hope we still get that 75% of our population and it will still be a good number,” he said.

“Hindi naman porket nabakunahan ng Sinovac ay walang proteksyon. Ang ibig lang sabihin, ang proteksyon niya ay hindi as high to prevent mild symptoms from occurring, which probably magiging dahilan to para hindi makapasok ang HCWs sa ospital,” he added.
