Pasay City General Hospital stops accepting COVID patients

Pasay City General Hospital will no longer accept new patients for COVID-19 cases after its wards are filled for COVID.

The hospital announced on Tuesday that the bed capacity in their intensive care unit (ICU), emergency room, and COVID-19 ward had been overcrowded due to severe and critical cases.

In the hospital’s officer-in-charge memo, Dr. John Victor De Gracia, they cannot go beyond the COVID cases it handles as its service for patients without COVID may also be affected.

Pasay Gen is the only public hospital in the city.

Before this, the hospital also temporarily suspended its OB-GYN services until the end of August due to increased cases of medical officers having COVID.

The hospital also increased their COVID bed capacity to 52 and ICU beds to 14 as part of their Phase 3 surge contingency measures.

As of Tuesday, 683 active COVID cases were recorded in Pasay.

Some of the other hospitals that announced that their COVID-19 beds were full were the Muntinlupa Hospital last week and the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 10,035 new infections of coronavirus disease on Tuesday, August 17.

About 6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive this week, according to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. That includes those from Sinovac, Sinopharm, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the number of fully vaccinated Filipinos had reached 12.74 million.

Although fully vaccinated, the Department of Labor and Employment reported earlier that Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III was infected with COVID-19. However, he is said to be asymptomatic.
