PAGCOR’s new logo worth P3-M criticized

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp’s newly unveiled logo for its 40th anniversary, which cost P3.03 million according to the government itself, has been criticized.

The new logo was revealed to the public at the Marriott Hotel Manila on Tuesday. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez attended the event.

“The new PAGCOR logo incorporates the element of fire associated with energy, inspiration, passion and transformation. It symbolizes the flame that ignites change and drives progress,” explained PAGCOR chairperson and chief executive officer Alejandro Tengco yesterday.

“The logo likewise reflects a beacon which symbolizes guidance, leadership, and direction. It represents a guiding light that helps people find their way.”

PAGCOR was created through Presidential Decree 1869 during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. year 1983.

This outstanding government corporation operates and builds gaming in the Philippines. It also oversees and regulates private casinos.

The agency’s total Contributions to Nation Building (CNB) in the past 40 years have reached P607 billion, excluding the P64 billion total dividends remittances since 2011. Because of that, PAGCOR’s total contributions will reach P671 billion.

Under Bongbong’s leadership, CNB immediately received P45 billion from PAGCOR, expected to reach P70 billion after the year.

“All these taken together, our new logo reflects PAGCOR’s long standing commitment of being a guiding force that illuminates the way forward, drives transformation and development, and brings inspiration and motivation to the lives it touches,” added Tengco.

PAGCOR’s new logo worth P3-M criticized

Based on the July 27 “notice of award” granted to Francisco Diplon, the logo is worth millions.

Doplon’s quotation for such a design reached P3,035,714.28, without value added tax and zero-rated transaction.

Doplon is said to be the proprietor of Printplus Graphic services, according to the bidding projects section of PAGCOR’s official website.

The said design was not well received by many netizens, especially since it seems that millions were spent on the resulting appearance.

“No way PAGCOR just chose a logo that’s so similar to Lucky Me’s logo. Never tell us this costs huge sums of money. ‘Designer’ can’t even understand basic color theory and how blue and red connects with gaming and amusement in such that they used gradient for what,” said Kevin Bryan Mecija on Facebook.

“3 million pesos worth for quotation tapos ganito lang ‘yung output? Nahiya naman yung Canva sa inyo,” said Khyle Alegre.
