Pagasa weather today: The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned Tropical Depression Ambo to bring rain in Mindanao on May 11, Monday.

At 3:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression “Ambo” was estimated based on all available data at 385 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (8.7 °N, 129.8 °E) with maximum sustained winds of 45km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55km/h. It is moving °Northwest at 10km/h.

Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of Tropical Depression Ambo. PAGASA also warned possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to occasionally heavy rains.

For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, there would be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers brought by localized Thunderstorms.  The public is also warned for possible flash floods or landslides due to severe thunderstorms.

As of this writing, the PAGASA has not issued any Tropical Cyclone advisory.

Ambo is the first tropical cyclone to enter the Philippines for 2020. The country gets an average of 20 tropical cyclones every year.

In PAGASA’s climate outlook, it gave the following estimates for the number of tropical cyclones in the next six months:

  • May – 1 or 2
  • June – 1 or 2
  • July – 2 to 4
  • August – 2 or 3
  • September – 2 or 3
  • October – 2 or 3

PAGASA also removes a tropical cyclone name from the list when it is particularly deadly or destructive.
