Paalam, Petecio and Marcial undergo quarantine in Tagaytay

Olympic medalists Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial are already at the Summit Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay City to begin their mandatory quarantine.

The athletes were greeted by hotel officials and Tagaytay City Mayor Agnes Tolentino on Monday after they landed in the country.

Also under quarantine at the hotel are fellow boxer Irish Magno, Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino, and the athletes’ team members.

Upon entering the hotel, the athletes were immediately given flowers. Their temperature and blood pressure were also taken as part of the implemented health and safety protocol.

According to the hotel’s general manager, Jose Marie Delgano Ouano, the rooms for the athletes have already been prepared.

It underwent a six-stage disinfection process to ensure it was safe in a few days of quarantine.

Two floors of the hotel were allocated to the Philippine team. There is also a gym available to athletes.

The rooms also view the Taal volcano, which is said to be one of the delegation’s requests.

According to the hotel’s executive chef Ernie Bacullo, the athletes requested dishes such as sinigang and grilled because they miss Filipino dishes.

Petecio said she would rest immediately and call her family. The silver medalist also plans to return to her hometown in Davao del Sur after the quarantine.

“I-enjoy ko muna yung lugar pero more on tatawagan ko lahat yung pamilya ko, pag nakalabas na, plano ko pong umuwi,” she said.

Nesthy Petecio won a silver medal in the inaugural women’s featherweight event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Filipino woman to win an Olympic medal in boxing. She also won a silver medal at the 2014 World Championships and gold at the 2019 edition.

Eumir Marcial won a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships and bronze at the 2020 Summer Olympics, both in the middleweight division.

Carlo Paalam became the fourth medalist to bring home an Olympic medal for the Philippines at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He brings home a silver medal in the men’s flyweight boxing event.
