About P11 million worth of marijuana crops destroyed in Kalinga

Authorities destroyed up to P11 million worth of marijuana crops during their 2 -day operation in this town in Kalinga, according to police.

According to the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, on Wednesday they tracked down with operatives of the Cordillera Police Regional Intelligence Unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Kalinga, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Kalinga and Naval Forces Northern Luzon 3 marijuana plantations in Barangay Loccong.

Their operation ended Thursday where marijuana plants were uprooted and burned.

In the first plantation with an area of ​​1,000 square meters, about 10,000 fully-grown marijuana plants valued at P2 million were discovered, according to a police statement.

About 30,000 fully-grown marijuana plants were found in the second plantation with an area of ​​3,000 square meters. The marijuana plants here cost P6 million.

About P3 million worth of approximately 15,000 fully-grown marijuana plants were discovered in the third plantation with an estimated land area of ​​1,500 square meters.

According to the police, since January this year, up to 13 marijuana eradication operations have been carried out by the authorities in Kalinga.

Suspect in killing of Japanese in Nueva Ecija arrested

Police arrested the suspect in the murder of an 82-year-old Japanese man in Nueva Ecija.

According to Police Lt. Silvestre Colanza, deputy chief of Cuyapo MPS, the victim, Norio Kurumatsuka, was living in the house of suspect Villamar Ronquillo, because his brother was allegedly a friend of the foreigner.

It is said that the Japanese often tell their friend that they do not get along with Villamar.

The lifeless body of the victim was found in Purok 2, Brgy. Columbitin, in the town of Cuyapo.

Kurumatsuka had a blow to the head that possibly caused his death. It is believed that he was beaten with a bamboo stick.

There are also witnesses who point out that the suspect was last seen coming out of the house where they lived.

Ronquillo has been charged with murder.
