Alleged online witch and fortuneteller steals P1-M from victims

It seems that the two victims were charmed and robbed of money by an alleged online witch and fortuneteller. One of the victims lost more than P1 million in exchange for rituals and alleged charms from the suspect.

In a report by John Consulta on GMA News “24 Oras” this Thursday, the victim who went by the name “Faye,” an overseas Filipino worker, said that the suspect fooled her for more than a year.

“’Yung yung sinasabi niya kasi nga may protection… Na in case raw po sa kulam, gayuma… Masakit po sa masakit. Nagtiwala ka and everything tapos ikaw pa ‘yung… Nanakot pa po sila,” said Faye.

Another victim, Elvie, also not her real name, said she paid about P60,000 for things like stones, amulets, potions, and dolls.

She said she was forced to buy such items because the suspect promised her family would help them with their problem.

“Nahulog lang ako kasi parang lahat ng mga charms na sinasabi niya, mga rituals, gawin mo ‘to. Hanggang sa naano ko na lang naubos na yung pera ko sa tatlong bangko ko na naipon,” she said.

According to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), online seller only relies on medicine and fortune-telling to sell their products.

“Nagsisimula engagements nila sa would be victims using itong mga popular social media sites. And then may mga online sites din silang ibinabato kung nasaan nandoon yung mga, basically mga scam items na ibebenta nila,” said NBI Cybercrime Division Chief Supervising Agent Chris Pas.

The agency said it would contact the involved social media sites to determine the suspect’s identity.

“Magkakaroon tayo ng pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga social media sites na ginagamit nila para makuha natin. Magkakaroon tayo ng requests for preservation ng digital evidence and of course, immediate deletion. Itong mga bogus na profile page nito,” said Pas.

Maging mapanuri tayo dahil naglipana po ang mga scammers online. And again, sinasamantala po nila yung kahinaan ng mga would be victims nila para magtake advantage,” the official said.
