No Martial Law if Ping Lacson becomes president

Partido Reporma chairman and presidential candidate Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson assured that democracy would remain in the country under his administration if he becomes the next president.

Lacson said Martial Law is not on his vocabulary, and it will not occur under his administration if he wins the 2022 elections.

“Definitely, democracy will be preserved. Walang martial law, walang dictatorship,” Lacson said in an interview with reporters after his campaign rally in Mawab, Davao de Oro.

Lacson explained that the Constitution had clarified the meaning of Martial Law and the provisions contained therein if it needs to be implemented in the country, to have clear standards and restrictions that will ensure it is not abused.

“May limitasyon ang deklarasyon ng martial law as if there is no martial law. Kasi, first, 60 days lang, ano—i-va-validate ng Congress. Pagkatapos the Bill of Rights are well-entrenched. Hindi magagalaw. Hindi pwedeng mang-aresto ng maski sino maski merong martial law,” said Lacson.

Lacson’s camp had earlier insisted that martial law would not be repeated under his leadership, contrary to accusations by his critics that he was misleading Filipinos with his participation in it as a former government intelligence officer.

Lacson was also asked about the content of his speech regarding his warning to Filipinos not to vote for corrupt people and thieves.

He declined to name who this candidate is, but Lacson warned that there are still rampant moves to change the views of Filipino voters and elect political thieves from the people.

“Dapat talaga alisin, i-cleanse talaga ‘yung mga inept, corrupt, undisciplined officials and employees,” Lacson said who vowed “Aayusin ang Gobyerno, Aayusin ang Buhay ng Bawat Pilipino” and “Uubusin ang Magnanakaw” on his campaign to be the next president of the Philippines.
