New Zealander tourist dead after fighting robber in Makati

A 34-year-old New Zealander tourist was killed after being shot while allegedly fighting a robber on a motorcycle in Makati City.

In a statement released by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) this Tuesday, the victim was identified as Nicholas Peter Stacey.

The crime allegedly happened on Sunday morning in Brgy. Palanan, while the victim was with his Filipina girlfriend.

Based on the Filipina’s testimony, she and the victim were walking when two assailants on a motorcycle suddenly arrived.

It is said that the rider got off and pointed a gun at them at the same time as declaring a holdup. It is said that Stacey tried to grab the assailant’s gun and that’s when he was shot, causing his death.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the chest, according to the NCRPO.

It is said that the assailants escaped and headed toward Pasay City taking away the victim’s cell phone and wallet.

NCRPO chief General Jonnel Estomo has ordered the Makati City Police Station to investigate the incident and immediately arrest the culprits.

He also wants to increase police visibility in the said area to prevent this type of crime from happening again.

“Alam nating ang insidenteng ito ay maaaring magdulot at magdala ng takot sa ibang mga turistang pupunta sa ating bansa kung kaya’t sisiguraduhin nating mabibigyan ng hustisya ang pagkamatay ng nasabing biktima,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported the arrest of an American pedophile  wanted by authorities in Wisconsin for sexually molesting a  nearly two decades ago.

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as Francisco Gomez, 62, who was arrested in Ermita, Manila last February 9 by operatives from the Bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

Tansingco said he issued a mission order for the American’s arrest at the request of the US authorities in Manila which sought the BI’s help in locating and deporting the sex offender.
