New president, VP to be proclaimed on May 27-28

The country’s winning presidents and vice presidents may be announced on May 27-28.

According to Senate President Vicente Sotto III, canvassing is planned to begin on the morning of May 24 as the Congress session will return on May 23. At the same time, he said the Senate would name its seven representatives on the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Sotto will lead the members of the Congressional Canvass Committee that will form the NBOC.

Sotto is confident that a new president and vice president will be declared before June.

In past elections, the canvassing was too long because the counting of votes was manual, but it will be computerized this time, Velasco said.

“This time it’s gonna be computerized. So you won’t see anymore white boards, manual tallies,” he added.

Foreign observers in the country are welcome to the process of canvassing and proclaiming the winning candidates for the two highest government positions.

Meanwhile, Commission on Elections Commissioner George Garcia told Laging Handa online press briefing that the result of the recent election should not be in doubt.

He said the results of the polls are posted in each polling precinct so that the public knows how many votes a candidate got.

According to Garcia, the PPCRV or Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and NAMFREL have a copy of the election return. No one complained that the number did not match the ER they received with the one released by the Comelec.

In the partial and unofficial tally from the Comelec’s transparency server at 7:32 last night with 98.09% of Election Returns, Marcos has already collected 31,036,142 votes far from Vice President Leni Robredo with only 14,790,393 votes.

Sen. Manny Pacquiao (3,626,198) is in third place, fourth Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso (1,887,770), and fifth Sen. Ping Lacson (880,765).

Duterte, on the other hand, recorded 31,482,073 votes, which is far ahead of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, who had only 9,212,988 votes, and Senate President Vicente Sotto III, who garnered 8,172,793, Doc Willie Ong 1,843,554 and Lito Atienza 266,921.
