Negros Oriental Rep. Teves not hiding – Atty. Topacio

A lawyer has announced that Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. will not hide and face the allegations that are being thrown at the lawmaker, including several cases of murder in his province that are accused of him.

“Ang ina-assure niya po sa akin ay haharapin niya po itong mga kasong ito and titingnan lang po natin kasi masyadong mabilis naman po yung developments,” saiid Atty. Ferdinand Topacio.

Teves is in America and Topacio is said to be in touch with the congressman’s return to the country.

Based on the document from the Office of the House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, it is stated that Teves was allowed to travel from February 28 to March 9 for his personal trip.

Teves had previously said that his travel to America was related to his health.

Topacio said, “Opo, nakikipag-ugnayan po kami sa kaniya kasi alam niyo po for medical reasons po kasi yung kanyang biyahe at tinitignan po namin kung maaari [na] siyang makabalik.”

This Tuesday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed three counts of murder case against Teves. This is related to the massacre in 2019 that he is accused of being the mastermind.

This Friday morning, the police raided five houses, some of which belonged to Teves, to look for guns. Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said the raid was related to the 2019 incident.

This Thursday, the arrested suspect in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo on Saturday mentioned that a “Cong Teves” was behind the killing of the local official.

Arnie Teves is the current Negros Oriental congressman. His brother, former Bayawan City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves, also became a former provincial congressman.

But Pryde ran for governor in the last 2022 elections and Degamo ran.

Although Pryde won the election, the result was reversed when another gubernatorial candidate, Grego “Ruel” Degamo, was disqualified and declared a “nuisance” by the Commission on Elections.

The Comelec gave the votes Grego got to [Roel] Degamo, who increased his vote against Pryde. Because of this, the Comelec will declare Degamo as the real winner a few months after the May 2022 elections.

This past February, the Supreme Court issued a decision agreeing with Comelec’s decision in favor of Degamo’s victory. But Pryde ran for governor in the previous 2022 elections and Degamo ran.
