NAIA security personnel arrested for stealing Chinese tourist’s smartwatch

Authorities have arrested a staff member of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) for allegedly stealing the smartwatch of a Chinese passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

In a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radio dzBB this Wednesday, OTS administrator Mao Aplasca said that the incident happened at 2 a.m. in the security screening area.

Based on the investigation conducted by the OTS, the Chinese passenger left his smartwatch in the tray used in the x-ray machine in the security screening area.

But the passenger couldn’t find his watch, so he reported it to the authorities.

When the officers reviewed the CCTV footage in the security screening area, it appeared that the smartwatch was left on the tray. It was allegedly placed on top of another tray by the 31-year-old suspect, an OTS security screening officer.

The suspect was arrested by personnel of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.

The suspect denied the allegation against him. The missing smartwatch has yet to be found.

Aplasca also soaped the suspect because he allegedly put the country to shame.

Bakit wala ba kayong suweldo?” he added.

Despite the suspect denying the allegation, Aplasca insisted that there was evidence against him.

Sana magtanda kayo, harapin mo itong kaso na ito,” the official said.

Before this, there was an allegation of theft by security screening area personnel when a Thai tourist lost money.

Airport management plans to increase security cameras and supervisors in the screening area.
