Nadine Lustre opposes bridge construction in Siargao

Actress and singer Nadine Luster did not support the plan to build a bridge on the island of Siargao because it would ruin the beauty of the place.

Lustre on Twitter said one of the peaceful places in Siargao is Secret Beach which will be hit by the Union-Malinao bridge.

“Secret Beach is def one of the most peaceful spots on the island. It makes me so sad to know that people are planning to build a bridge that will totally destroy that area,” the actress tweeted.

According to Lustre, the mangroves and sea grass in the area could be damaged due to the construction of the bridge in the protected area.

“Homes of locals will be destroyed and jobs will be lost as a result of this bridge,” Nadine Lustre added.

To make matters worse, Siargao has not fully recovered from the damage caused by typhoon Odette in December.

She said many are still without food, without proper shelter, and remain traumatized by the disaster that should be given more attention than the construction of the bridge.

“People are starving, homeless and dealing with trauma everyday. I wish this was more prioritized more than anything else,” she said.

“Improvement isn’t always about pouring concrete. If we’re all respectful and protective towards the environment, our lives including every other living thing that co-exists with us will improve greatly,” Nadine Lustre said.

In December, Luster admitted that she already has her own residence in Siargao to avoid the huge accommodation cost, especially since she has been staying on the island for a long time.

“It’s so expensive to just get accommodation and then I’m staying there for months, weeks, so it’s gonna be super expensive. At saka it’s nice to have your own place,” said Lustre.

Nadine Lustre decided to settle in the area when there was another strict lockdown in Metro Manila in 2021 due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 case.
