Mother allegedly trades baby for illegal drugs

Authorities rescued a six-month-old baby in Dasmariñas, Cavite, who was allegedly traded for shabu by his mother. The mother denied the allegation, although she admitted to taking illegal drugs.

In a report by Marisol Abdurahman on GMA News “24 Oras” this Monday, it was said that the personnel of the Cabuyao Police and City Social Welfare Office found the said baby in a remote area in Paliparan.

“Parang barter ang dating… marami na tayong nahuli hindi ganoon pero ito iba kasi ‘yung anak niya ang ginamit niya para makakuha ng drugs,” said Cabuyao Police chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Jack Angog.

(It is like barter… we’ve caught a lot of people. But this is different because she used her son to get drugs.)

According to the report, the mother was arrested on Saturday in a buy-bust operation. Besides the drugs, baby clothes were also found on her. It was here that the police found out what had happened to the baby.

“Tapos kung magkano man ‘yung kikitain niya du’n, ibabalik niya, ibibigay niya du’n worth the same shabu para makuha niya ulit ‘yung anak niya,” said Angog. “Ang una sinabi niya is kalahating [shabu].”

(Then, no matter how much she earns there, she will return it. She will give it worth the same shabu to get her son again. She said the first she got is half [shabu].)

The baby’s mother admitted that she did go to Cavite to get illegal drugs. But she insisted that she just left the child there.

“Kumuha po ako ng droga na may bitbit akong pera halagang P2,000. P500 ang back and forth ko, ay kinuha ko ng drugs. Bitbit ko ang anak ko dahil gabi na. Kaibigan ko naman ‘yung pinuntahan ko. Sabi niya ‘wag isapalaran ‘yung bata,” she explained.

(I bought drugs with P2,000 worth of cash. My back and forth was P500, and I took drugs. I’m taking my son because it’s late. My friend is the one I went to. He said don’t take chances with the child.)

The baby in the care of CSWD is doing well.

Complaints for violation of RA 9165 have been filed against the suspect, who is now detained at the Cabuyao Police Station.
