Mother allegedly kills, buries 3-year-old son in Quezon

A three-year-old boy was tragically killed after being allegedly submerged in a river, trampled on, and then buried by his mother in Catanauan, Quezon. The suspect is said to have a mental problem.

Paul Hernandez reported on GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog that the horrific crime occurred on May 29 in a bamboo village in Barangay Santa Maria (Dao).

But it was only on June 9 that the crime was discovered when the suspect’s eldest son reported it to the authorities.

“Nakita po nu’ng isang kapatid po niya na nu’ng ginagawa ‘yung krimen kaso hindi lang po niya nabanggit agad dahil natakot po,” said Police Captain Lindley Tibuc, chief of Catanauan Police Station.

(The brother saw the crime but did not report it because of fear.)

The Catanauan Police investigation revealed that the suspect, who hid under the name “Dona,” had a mental problem.

“Since 10 years old po ay may nagkaroon po siya ng problema sa pag-iisip dahil nagkaroon daw po siya ng sakit,” said Tibuc.

The eldest son thought his mother and brother would bathe in the river, but he did not expect this to lead to the heinous crime.

The mother allegedly immersed the helpless child in the river, then trampled on the neck and abdomen until the child died.

“Nang hindi na raw po gumagalaw ‘yung bata ay naghukay na raw po ng lupa itong si suspek at doon naman po malapit sa may ilog at du’n niya na po inilibing, tinabunan niya na po ng lupa,” said Tibuc.

(When the boy allegedly stopped moving, the suspect reportedly dug the ground, and it was there near the river, she buried him there, and she covered it with soil.)

Authorities are currently searching for Dona, who has already been charged with parricide.
