More vaccines requested by Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro

The town of Bongabong in Oriental Mindoro has requested an additional supply of COVID-19 vaccine to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“Ako po ay umaapela sa ating DOH (Department of Health) na madagdagan ang supply ng aming vaccine at ito lang ang paraan para matigil na ang coronavius na kumikitil ng buhay,” said Mayor Elgin Malaluan.

In an interview with TeleRadyo Wednesday morning, Malaluan said that only 5 percent of their residents are still vaccinated.

“Mahigit 4,000 ang vaccinated namin. Ang aming populasyon nasa mga 82,000 pero ang aming target at least mga 50 percent ay mabakunahan namin, 40,000 to 45,000,” he said.

But not so many people have been vaccinated yet due to the lack of vaccines coming to their town.

“May ibinibigay sa amin yung Pfizer subalit kailangan naman po ng freezer. Wala naman kaming ganung kalaking halaga,” he said.

So far, the town has 14 active COVID cases.

He also said that the Delta variant case reported to them had been fully recovered.

“Kaya pansamantala pong natigil ng ilang araw yung aming vaccination dahil lahat po sila na exposed doon,” the mayor said.

After seven days, they will be vaccinated again, but the vaccinators need to be antigenized first to make sure that they do not have COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health said the increase in new COVID-19 cases in the country is expected to continue in the coming days or weeks. Therefore, the impact of the two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will not be immediately felt.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the impact of the 2-week lockdown could be felt over the next two to three weeks.

The current active case findings of local governments also affect the continuous discovery of new cases.
