Metro Manila schools prepare for pilot face-to-face classes

Some schools in Metro Manila are already preparing to participate in the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes next week.

A total of 28 schools in Manila are expected to participate in the pilot implementation starting Monday, December 6. All 16 cities will join, while none from the municipality of Pateros will participate.

In Makati, there was a dry run of face-to-face classes at Comembo Elementary School this Thursday morning.

About 72 Kindergarten through Grade 3 students will physically enter class on Monday, and all will go through health protocols.

The Makati local government unit (LGU) jeep will also pick up some of the students while others will just walk in and out with their parents or guardians.

There are no plastic barriers inside the classrooms, but there is a UV light and air purifier that disinfects the classrooms before, during, or after classes.

Electric fans are used instead of air conditioning in the classrooms, where the windows are also open for better ventilation.

The school has holding and isolation areas and a clinic for those who develop symptoms. There is also a stand-by school medical team and LGU.

Last week, Pasig Elementary School also held a dry run based on a social media post by Mayor Vico Sotto.

The photos posted by Sotto show that the children’s seats who are all wearing face masks are also separated.

The 28 schools in Metro Manila are among the 177 public schools participating in the pilot face-to-face classes.

Prior to that, only 100 public schools and 18 private schools participated in the pilot implementation that began last month.

Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the first day of pilot in-person classes went “very, very successful.”

“We consider it very, very successful,” Briones said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“Excited na excited na ang lahat. Ang pinaka-excited siguro ang mga kabataan, kasi sila makikita nila ‘yung mga fellow children at gusto nilang makabisita sa schools… It’s a wonderful day for everyone,” she added.
