Some local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are already preparing for the possibility of the spread of the more contagious COVID-19 Delta variant.
In Pasay City, Barangay 183 has implemented “no ID, no entry,” which means that non -residents are not allowed to enter.
The barangay has experienced being able to record 140 new cases of COVID-19 in one day.
“Baka makapasok dito sa aming lugar [ang Delta variant], alam mo naman malapit kami sa airport,” said Victor Mendoza, a barangay official.
“Doble-higpit sa ‘pagche-check ng mga tao,” said Mendoza.
On the other hand, Resident Naty Rico avoids leaving the house because she has not been vaccinated and is nervous about the new variant.
In Makati, vaccination is in full swing due to the threat of the COVID-19 Delta variant. However, the city also has a large backlog of vaccinations due to a lack of supply.
Up to 152,048 were vaccinated in the first dose, while 81,988 were fully vaccinated.
In preparation for the COVID-19 Delta variant, the implementation of minimum health standards and a ban on mass gatherings have been tightened again.

“Kung makikita niyo naman talaga sa labas talagang napakadaming tao na at naghahalo halo sila sa isang lugar so ‘yan pinakaayaw natin lalo na kung makapasok Delta variant,” said Ronald Unson, assistant head of Makati City Health Department.
In Quezon City, the LGU will tighten in case it implements a lockdown due to the variant, and there will be more aggressive contact tracing.
In Navotas, because of the variant, Mayor Toby Tiangco once again banned children from leaving houses.
In Caloocan, Mayor Oscar Malapitan instructed the police to monitor mass gatherings in the city.
In preparation for the “worst-case scenario” against the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the Philippines, Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar alerted all police commanders and the PNP Maritime Group to guard the country’s backdoor against incoming Indonesians and Malaysia to make sure we don’t get through there.
According to the PNP chief, the Delta variant is now a serious problem in neighboring Indonesia, so intelligence monitoring and patrol on the country’s southern border should be tightened.
