It is said that the number of frontliners in COVID-19 referral hospitals who want to get vaccinated against the disease has increased, amid doubts that some of the vaccine’s possible side effects.
In the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila, 95 percent of its employees registered for the vaccination, based on the last day of their registration and screening.
This is higher than the 75 percent recorded in the survey conducted by the hospital recently.
“Napakaganda ng response sa appeal for vaccination. As of yesterday, nakaka-4,000 vaccinees na na-register na. Ngayon, another 1,000 to 2,000. Baka we can reach close to 6,000 registrants,” said PGH spokesperson Jonas Del Rosario.
Rosario, who survived and lost his parents due to COVID-19, will be the first to be vaccinated at the hospital.
“Napili po namin ang aming spokesperson, si Dr. Jonas Del Rosario, na mula pong March 22 hanggang ngayon ay araw-araw nasa PGH, nagsasalita para sa amin. Nagka-COVID po siya, at sa kasamaang palad, ang kanyang mga magulang po ay parehong namatay dahil sa COVID.”

The hospital also conducted screening of employees to find out who the low-risk and high-risk are. Vaccination will also be done by schedule.
The Lung Center of the Philippines is intensifying its information campaign to address the concerns of vaccinators.
As many as 10 percent of the hospital’s 1,250 personnel still do not want to be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the hospital.
“There is no treatment without any risk at all. Now it’s a matter of evaluating the benefits from the risk. Kung ganyan ang benefit mo, ganyan ang risk mo, go tayo. Pero kung ganito ‘yung benefit mo, ganyan ang risk mo, kami pa ang unang aatras. Given the info and data we have so far, siyempre go tayo diyan,” said Lung Center of the Philippines Spokesperson Norberto Francisco.
About 80 percent of East Avenue Medical Center employees want to be vaccinated.
