Senator Imee Marcos announced on Friday that their family has not yet received the alleged letter from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to collect multi-billion-peso estate tax from her late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos.
According to the senator, her mother, Imelda, and her lawyers have not yet received the alleged demand letter from the BIR regarding unpaid taxes.
Based on court records, it cost P23 billion in 1999 but is estimated to have swelled to P203 billion due to interest and fines not being paid after many years.
“Ang problema kasi, ‘yung nanay ko, wala pa raw natatanggap. Tinanong ko sa kaniya, e ‘yung mga abogado niya, wala pang natatanggap. So nakikipag-uganayan sila sa BIR na makakuha ng kopya at makipag-meeting,” said Imee in a radio interview.
“Matagal na naming hinihingi rin ito e, kasi pati kami nalilito e,” she added.
According to Imee, her mother and her lawyers, as well as her brother, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., are looking for the BIR’s demand letter, which they only found out about in the media.
“Kasi nakita lang namin sa media. Wala kasing kopya na buo ang nanay ko at hinihingi nga ang buong dokumento para upuan na once and for all, kasi nakakailang beses na rin kami na nakikisuyo sa kanila na upuan na natin at sumahin na ng total,” added Imee.
Marcos family yet to receive BIR’s demand letter – Imee
Earlier, the BIR said in their letter to Aksyon Demokratiko that they had sent a written demand to the Marcoses.
The Department of Finance recently announced that the BIR continues to charge the Marcos family for their estate tax debt.
Based on the entry of judgment from the Supreme Court, it is stated that the decision on the estate tax issue in 1999 is final and should be implemented.
Imee, on the other hand, questioned the timing of the release of the estate tax issue, which is allegedly part of dirty politics.
“Ang akin lang, ang dami-dami nang taon, bakit bigla ngayon lumabas. Talagang parang paninira naman yata ito ng bulok na pulitika. Inuungkat ito,” said Imee.
“At tsaka sa totoo lang ‘wa epek’ na e dahil masyadong sawang-sawa na yung tao sa paulit-ulit na paninira sa amin. Parang hindi naman tumatalab na. Ang akin, ‘yung kaso tuloy-tuloy ‘yan kahit sino pa man ang manalo. ‘Yung mga kaso tuloy-tuloy sa korte, walang problema ‘yan. Hindi naman ‘yan haharangin ng pamilya naming kailanman,” she added.
