Manny Pacquiao spent over P60M personal funds for his campaign

Senator Manny Pacquiao has reported spending more than P119 million on his May 2022 presidential campaign, of which P62 million came from his own pocket.

According to his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) submitted with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Pacquiao has spent a total of P119,128,914.14 on his campaign.

His personal finances contributed P62,677,926.12 to the total.

Pacquiao’s SOCE also revealed that he got financial contributions totaling P7,750,000 and in-kind contributions of P48,700,988.02.

In February, Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao said that when her son first jumped into politics, she was apprehensive because he might run out of money, which he won in boxing and other businesses.

“Noong tumatakbo pa siya for the first time dito sa General Santos, umiyak ako kasi ilang sako na ng pera ang nakita kong nawala,” said Mommy D.

“Sabi pa ng mga amiga ko, ‘Mommy, ang anak mo bigay nang bigay ng pera, baka maubos ang kuwarta!’”

“Tapos ito presidente na, sabi ko ‘Manny, iba na talaga to kasi buong bansa na, mas malaki pa sa bariles [tuna] ng GenSan!” said the ‘PacMom.”

‘Billionaire Ph’ reported on January 30, 2022, that Pacman was already selling his Forbes Park mansion.

According to Vic Agustin, the mansion has three different prices: ₱ 2.3B, ₱ 2B, and the final price is ₱ 1.95B. The ‘Zen-inspired’ property was allegedly sold by Pacman for ₱ 400M in 2011 and underwent several renovations.

Before the campaign period started, Manny Pacquiao gave out money to people who attended his events.

Critics compared the cash giveaways to vote-buying. However, Pacquiao has stated that he will not stop unless he is notified that what he is doing is unlawful.

Senators Pacquiao and Cynthia Villar are the only billionaires in the Senate as of December 2020, according to their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth, each with a net worth of over P3 billion (SALN).

Based on the summary of SALNs issued on the Senate website as of December 2020, Villar remains the wealthiest lawmaker, with a net worth of approximately P3.87 billion.

Manny Pacquiao, a former boxing world champion, followed with a net worth of over P3,18 billion.
