After being shot while sleeping on a footbridge at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City early Thursday morning, a man is in critical condition.
The victim was identified as Jose Ronillo Conde, a resident of Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, based on the IDs obtained from him.
The victim trades garbage and usually sleeps on the footbridge, especially when it rains at night.
According to Jayson Garganera of the Quezon City Task Force Disiplina, they were at the outpost of the Task Force Disiplina, which was also near the said footbridge, when they heard a gunshot that they thought had exploded a vehicle tire.
Later, people approached them to report the shooting.
A blank was found near the victim’s body, but no one saw the suspect.
Rescuers responded immediately to give the victim first aid before rushing him to East Avenue Medical Center.
Project 6 Police Station in Quezon City is still investigating the possible motive for the crime.

A 20-year-old criminology student Junel Talan died after being stabbed by their neighbor’s tricycle driver on Tuesday night.
According to the story of his siblings, their neighbor, identified as Matias Avenido Jr., was on his way home. Avenido was driving a tricycle at the time, which could not fit in the narrow alley because of the motorcycles parked in front of the victim’s house. The motorcycles do not belong to the victim’s family.
CCTV footage showed the suspect getting off his tricycle and then knocking on the victim’s house. Then, the suspect went on a rampage, which resulted in a beating between the suspect and the victim’s brother.
The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Talan in the chest, killing him. His brother’s lip was cut off, while his other brother was wounded in the arm. The victim’s aunt was also wounded in the head.
The suspect fled and went through the back of the house.
The suspect, Avenido, who is set to be charged with murder and physical injuries, is still being sought. The family demands justice and calls on the suspect to surrender.
