Man with knife stuck in his chest to get free operation

A man from Kidapawan City will undergo a free operation to remove the blade of a knife that has been buried inside his body for more than 1 year.

According to Dr. Joel Nelton Sungcad, chief of North Cotabato Provincial Hospital said he has already talked to the family of 25-year-old Kent Ryan Tomao and is just waiting for him to return to Kidapawan City from Agusan del Sur for surgery.

“We already have negotiated with the patient’s family. And we are still waiting for him to come home and have him operated in the hospital without charge,” said Sungcad in a statement.

According to Sungcad, because Tomao is looking for a job, he may also be given a hospital, depending on his qualifications.

Tomao discovered the knife’s blade has been inside his body for 14 months when he had an X-ray for his job application.

“Sabi ng doktor, dapat makuha na agad kasi malapit yung kutsilyo sa lungs, delikado po,” Tomao said in an interview this Wednesday.

(The doctor said it should be taken out immediately because the knife is close to the lungs, it’s dangerous.)

In January last year, Tomao was stabbed by a group of teenagers in North Cotabato.

When he was taken to a hospital there, the doctor and nurse allegedly did not even  him, and they just stitched up his wound.

“Wala akong na x-ray. Tinahi lang nila diretso kasi sabi ng doktor, mababa lang naman daw yung sugat,” he said.

(I don’t have x-rays. They just sewed it straight because the doctor said the wound was not deep.)

He appealed to the hospital to give a better service to their patients.

“Sana ayusin nila ang pag-alaga sa kanilang mga pasyente kasi binabayaran sila nang maayos ng gobyerno. Pantay-pantay sana ang trato,” he said.

(I hope they would improve taking care of their patients because the  pays them well. The treatment would have been equal.)
