A major earthquake has struck near the Northern Mariana Islands on Friday. A 7.7 magnitude quake was detected by the United States Geological Survey and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The quake has not produced a tsunami as it registered at 132 miles below the seabed, dampening the overall effect and the possibility of a tsunami occuring.

The epicentre of the quake was 31 miles north of the island of Pagan, part of the Northern Mariana Island volcanic archipelago.
