LTO warns against fixers offering illegal driver’s license application

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) warned the public Thursday against individuals offering illegal processing of driver’s license application.

In his notice, LTO Chief Asec said. Edgar Galvante said they received reports that social media was being used to offer illegal facilitation of driver’s license applications and renewals.

According to Galvante, the agency is now investigating who is behind it to file a lawsuit.

LTO has suspended applications and renewal of driver’s license and other permits due to the existing enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines.

As a result, drivers’ licenses, permits, and registration of vehicles that expire during the ECQ will remain valid.

LTO gives 60-day extension for driver’s license renewal

LTO earlier announced they would give a 60-day extension for the driver’s license renewal for those expired during ECQ. The grace period will start once the lockdown is lifted after May 15.

Galvante said applicants could process their driver’s license renewal within 60 days when LTO offices open.

Galvante said LTO suspended the penalties for the late registration of motor vehicles and the renewal of driver’s licenses that expired within the duration of the community quarantine.

He also said LTO would limit transactions once the ECQ is finished to observe health protocols such as social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

LTO, however, might operate during Saturday to accommodate more applicants, said Galvante, but their personnel in the counters will be reduced.

He also said LTO would prioritize frontliners in the opening of the offices. Galvante advised applicants to process their registration before the end of the grace period to avoid overcrowding at the offices on the day of the deadline.
