LTO gives ‘second chance’ to SUV owner involved in Mandaluyong hit and run

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) gave another chance to the owner of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that ran over a security guard in Mandaluyong City recently to attend the June 10 hearing.

LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante confirmed this on Wednesday, who said that they had given a “final notice” to the owner to explain to LTO on Friday.

“Nakasaad doon na binibigyan siya ng huling notice na ini-expect siya na dumalo sa LTO sa Biyernes ng ala-una. Again, yun ang final notice sa kanya,” said Galvante in an interview.

(It was stated there that he was given final notice that he was expected to attend the LTO on Friday at one o’clock. So, again, that was the final notice to him.)

He said that if the owner of the SUV fails to attend the scheduled hearing, he will not accept his explanations on the matter.

He said this is also the time for them to issue a decision to punish the SUV owner based on the evidence they have.

On June 6, the LTO issued a 90-day suspension against the SUV owner’s license along with the request that it should attend the hearing of the case the next day, along with the driver who ran away. However, the SUV owner did not participate in the scheduled hearing.

On Tuesday, the owner of the SUV was charged with frustrated murder.

The case took root when the SUV ran over the victim Christian Joseph Floralde directing the traffic flow when the incident took place on Julia Vargas Avenue, the corner of St. Francis Street, on June 5th.

Earlier, Senator-elect JV Ejercito also said that the father of the RAV4 driver had already contacted him and promised to cover all the costs of the victim’s treatment.

He said they are also ready to face any case filed against them.

Ejercito had earlier offered a P50,000  for providing information to the owner of the said vehicle.
