LJ Reyes was full of grief as she detailed her painful breakup with actor Paolo Contis this August.
The reason for their separation is complex, but it clearly cannot be called a “mutual decision.”
“No, hindi siya mutual. Naniniwala ako kapag mutual isang decision, pareho kayong sumasang-ayon na hindi na nagwo-work yung relationship.
“Hindi po, e. Ramdam na ramdam ko naman po na ibang-iba na.
“Matagal ko na nararamdaman na nakahiwalay na siya sa amin. Ramdam na ramdam ko po yun,” LJ said.
LJ admitted that in their first conversation, she was the one who initiated their breakup.
But a few days later, during their second in-depth conversation back in August, Paolo refused to get back together.
“Pero honestly, ako yung nagsabi na parang nasa ibang mundo na po siya, at parang pakiramdam ko na hinihintay lang niya na manggaling sa akin.
“Nagbaba na lang ako ng pride kahit ako yung nasasaktan. Titiisin ko po yun para sa mga bata. Kasi inisip ko, baka kailangan nila ng complete family.
“Tinanong ko siya, if he wants to take us back. Pero hindi na daw.”
This is LJ’s confession during a more than an hour-long conversation with TV host Boy Abunda on August 31 (Philippine time) and aired on YouTube on September 1.
Their video interview is virtual because LJ is in New York with her two children.
LJ Reyes explained that during their six-year relationship, she loved Paolo Contis because she saw it as sincere in loving her and her son Aki.

Aki is LJ’s 11-year-old son to ex-boyfriend Paulo Avelino.
LJ admitted that Paolo was a good father to Aki when they were just three, and he became even more hands-on father to Summer.
Summer is the two-year-old daughter of LJ Reyes and Paolo Contis.
“Alam naman ng public na di siya goody-goody image, di ba? Siyempre nung nanliligaw siya, sinabi ko sa kanya kung ano yung mga ayoko.
“Pinakita niya sa akin na nagbago siya. At sino naman ako na di magbigay ng chance?
“Ang point ko noon, ‘Sino pa magbibigay sa kanya ng chance at maniniwala sa kanya?’ Nung time na yun, maganda ipinakita niya sa akin sa pamilya ko, sa anak ko.
“Ang nakilala kong Paolo, yung maalaga, yung kahit na tigasin siya, deep inside generous siya. Kapag mahal niya ang isang tao, mahal niya. Yun ang nakita ko. Minsan lang di siya marunong mag-express.”
Paolo also seems to be a homebody.
According to LJ, the changes she noticed in Paolo’s behavior started “late last year”.
She said of the qualities she loved in Paolo, “Nawala yun, eh.”
LJ Reyes tearfully admitted that she hid from the public and even from people close to her the problem she was carrying in her relationship with her longtime live-in partner.
