Liza Soberano files case vs. netizen over rape remark

Rape jokes should not be ignored, said Liza Soberano this Thursday while filing a case against a netizen who allegedly made a rape remark on her.

“I was really upset because the fact that it’s a rape joke, it’s not something that should be taken lightly. And the fact that she’s a woman, I would never in a million years do a joke like that,” said Soberano.

The 22-year-old actress said that in the comments section on Facebook she read the statement of a woman, who said it is delightful to get Liza raped.

“It sounded like, wala na raw akong trabaho so I can do anything I want, ‘di bale na raw masira ang image ko tapos masarap ipa-rape,” said Soberano.

According to Liza Soberano, people should learn to be responsible for what they say on social media.

“I think it’s about time that people learn the consequences of speaking like that on social media,” she said.

“I know that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, that is true, but at some point, you have to be respectful to others online. I want people to learn that there are consequences to everything like rape jokes [because] that is not a light matter,” Liza Soberano added.

According to Soberano’s lawyer, the netizen clearly violated the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 by making such comments.

Meanwhile, former child actress Xyriel Manabat also experienced sexual harassment on social media.

Xyriel Manabat, now 16 years old, spoke up on social media comments sexualizing her body.

The former child star became the center of attention on social media after one of her photos on Instagram was flooded with inappropriate comments.

Xyriel reacted to the “below-the-belt” comments about her body in an interview with ABS-CBN TV writer Darla Sauler.

“Hindi po ako na-fla-flatter sa ibang comments kasi yung iba po below-the-belt and sana alam nila and aware po yung mga tao na sexual harassment is never OK po. Hindi po siya fine,” she said.

She also shared sexual harassment should not be tolerated despite anyone’s age, gender, or clothing.
