Lifesaver pipeline placed over damaged road in Pasig

The damaged section of Topaz Road in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, is set to be repaired following the appearance of long, branched, and deep cracks in the heavy rains on Sunday.

The Manila Water contractor worked all night since Monday to lay the so-called lifesaver pipeline on the side of the road.

This will be the waterway for 4 condominiums around the broken part of Topaz Road while the road is being built.

The East of Galleria, Cyberscape Beta, Cyberscape Gamma, and Glas Tower buildings are affected.

The main water line was cut for two hours from 10 pm to midnight to move it to another temporary waterline.

This has also been done to completely close the waterway under the road checked for leaks.

According to the contractor’s supervisor, they target to use the lifesaver pipeline Tuesday night.

The Ortigas Land contractor who was constructing the adjacent building was on guard all night.

There has been no change in the cracks that have formed since Sunday, but it is being watched to see if it will be affected when it rains again.

On Monday, the assessment report of the city engineer’s office that investigated the source of the cracks is expected to be submitted to Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto along with representatives of Ortigas Land, Manila Water, Meralco, and Barangay San Antonio.

Barangay chairman Raymond Lising said the first cause of the crack was the wetting of the ground due to heavy rains.

Other than the viewing angles are the provision of the drainage system and the impact of the adjacent construction site.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum, on the other hand, denied in a media interview that the cracks caused the earthquake or the movement of the fault.

PAGASA also said that the road could not be struck by lightning because tall buildings in the area will be struck by lightning first.
