Vice President Leni Robredo is ready to fight the administration’s candidate in the 2022 election if she is said to be the presidential candidate endorsed by the united opposition.
“Assurance ko sa lahat, walang duda na ‘pag ako ang unity candidate, handang-handa ako,” said Robredo in her radio show.
(I assure everyone, there is no doubt that if I am the unity candidate, I will be very ready.)
The readiness is also said to be a result of Leni Robredo’s current position as vice president.
“Ang number one mandate ng pangalawang pangulo, magsa-succeed ‘pag may nangyari sa pangulo,” said Leni Robredo.
(The number one mandate of the vice president will succeed if something happens to the president.)
“So day one ng aking pagka-vice president, obligasyon ko na pinaghahandaan ko ‘yong eventuality ‘yon. ‘Di sa hinihingi natin. ‘Pag may nangyari, ‘yon ang aking responsibility as vice president,” she added.
(So day one of my vice presidency, it is my obligation to prepare for that eventuality. Not what we ask for. When something happens, that’s my responsibility as vice president.)
Robredo appealed to the Commission on Elections to extend the voter registration period in the same program, especially since many have difficulty registering during this pandemic.
“Baka naman, puwede namang i-delay for another month para lang siguradong makakahabol ang mga hindi pa nagpaparehistro,” said Robredo.

(Maybe, it can be delayed for another month just to make sure those who have not yet registered can catch up.)
For now, until September 30, 2021, only one can register for the 2022 election.
The Comelec had earlier asserted that it could no longer afford to extend voter registration as it would severely affect their preparations for the election, such as ballot printing and deployment of election supplies and equipment.
Instead, registration hours have been extended.
According to Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, most of the Comelec en banc are no longer in favor of extending the voter registration deadline, although they will discuss the Senate resolution.
So far, 62 million have registered to vote. But according to some groups, more than 70 million are eligible to register based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
