Leni Robredo denounces red-tagging

Meanwhile, Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo has condemned red-tagging attempts, denying text messages purporting to show her praising Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison.

Robredo debunked accusations that she will establish a coalition government with the CPP, the New People’s Army (NPA), and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines in a Sunday post on her official Facebook account (NDF).

“Andami daw nakatanggap nito kagabi. Tapos non-stop ang red-tagging sa akin at sa ating volunteers. May paandar pang bubuo daw ako ng coalition government kasama ang CPP-NPA-NDF. Para klaro: kasinungalingan ito,” Robredo said.

“Once and for all: Kaliwa, kanan, taas, baba, lahat handa tayong pakinggan — basta tapat, mapayapa, at handang magtrabaho para iangat ang buhay ng Pilipino,” she added.

(Many individuals received this last night, and there has been nonstop red-tagging of our volunteers and me, as well as accusations that I will form a coalition government with the CPP-NPA-NDF. To be clear, these are lies.)

In her article, Robredo stated that those who truly know her understand that she does not believe in using violence to solve problems or picking up arms to advance personal goals.

“Alam ‘yan ng lahat ng katrabaho ko, kasama na ang mga nasa uniformed services, na mukhang sila ang tinatarget ng mga ganitong disinformation at propaganda. Kaya pwede ba,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lito Banayo, the campaign manager for Manila Mayor and presidential candidate Isko Moreno, said he was not in a position to refute Duterte’s claims that “dilawans” are working with a communist group to disrupt the 2022 elections.

“The President has intelligence information that ordinary mortals like me have no access to. I am not in any position to question his statement about working relations with the left by the so-called dilawans,” Banayo told the GMA News Online.
