Anytime, anywhere: Leni Robredo challenges BBM to a debate

Vice President Leni Robredo, a presidential candidate, has challenged rival Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to a debate, Friday.

“Isang kandidato na lang ang hindi pa humaharap sa taumbayan sa isang debate kasama ang lahat ng ibang kandidato. Mahalaga sana ito para masuri kami ng publiko, at para marinig nila at mapagkumpara ang vision at pagkatao namin,” Robredo said.

(Only one candidate has not yet faced the people in a debate with all the other candidates. It would have been important for the public to evaluate us and for them to hear and compare our vision and personality.)

“Inaanyayahan ko si Ginoong Bongbong Marcos na makipagdebate, para mabigyan ang taumbayan ng pagkakataong makaharap siya at matanong tungkol sa mga kontrobersiyang pumapalibot sa kanya. We owe it to the people and to our country. Kung papayag po kayo, anytime, anywhere, darating ako,” she added.

(I invite Mr. Bongbong Marcos to debate to give the people a chance to meet him and ask questions about the controversies surrounding him. We owe it to the people and to our country. If you will, anytime, anywhere, I will come.)

Anytime, anywhere: Leni Robredo challenges BBM to a debate

BBM has skipped debates held by different media networks, including the controversial Kapuso Mo with Jessica Soho interview. Marcos Jr. said he refused to participate because the veteran journalist was allegedly biased against the Marcoses.

The only debate BBM attended was sponsored by SMNI News Channel, the network of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) led by the Filipino church leader and televangelist Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy.

Recently, BBM has declined to participate in the final Commission on Elections presidential panel interview, citing a desire to concentrate on his presidential campaign before the May 9 elections.

“With less than two weeks before the May 9 elections, frontrunner Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has decided to forego his participation in the Comelec’s presidential panel interview, scheduled on May 1, 2022,” his spokesman, lawyer Vic Rodriguez said in a statement.

Leni Robredo and BBM were the top contenders for the presidency in the 2022 elections.
