Lacson-Sotto to implement ‘Anti-Kotong Day’ everyday

As long as the government’s corrupt employees and officials do not disappear, ‘Anti-Kotong Day’ will be held every day under the management of Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and his running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

“Hanggang hindi nawawala ang kotong, every day will be an ‘Anti-Kotong Day,’ ‘yon lang ang masasabi ko. Matitigil lang ang ‘yung ‘Anti-Kotong Day’ ‘pag wala nang kotong. Nagawa ko ito ‘nung chief PNP ako, nawala ang kotong sa kalsada,” Lacson said at the “Meet the Press” forum in conjunction with the celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day yesterday.

“’Pag naging presidente ako at naging bise presidente si Senate President, mawawala ang kotong sa gobyerno. ‘Yan pwede naming ipangako kasi nagawa na namin,” Lacson added.

Lacson and Sotto said that corruption is the country’s biggest problem, so in analyzing those who need to vote to be the next leader, they stressed that the characteristic that Filipinos need to look for is who can solve the issue of corruption.

“’Pag nagsimula ka ng anti-corruption drive dapat all the way at saka walang double standard. Hindi pwedeng lip service, hindi pwedeng double speak, dapat talagang walk the talk. E diyan kami kilala ni Senate President. We always walk the talk,” Lacson, a former chief of the Philippine National Police and known in the Senate as a watchdog of the government’s budget, said.

The crime of mulcting or “kotong” is committed when a law enforcement official or public official extorts or unlawfully extracts money or property through intimidation or undue exercise of their authority against any person facing apprehension or charges for violating or suspected of violating any law in exchange for protection for possible arrest or filing of charges.

According to GAN Integrity’s Philippines Corruption Report updated May 2020, the Philippines suffers from many incidents of corruption and crime in many aspects of civic life and various sectors.

Such corruption risks are rampant throughout the state’s judicial system, police service, public services, land administration, and natural resources.
