Korean, Pinay girlfriend arrested for drugs

A Korean man and his Filipina girlfriend were arrested after receiving a package from France that contained only shabu.

According to Gerald Javier, Task Group Commander of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, the package arrived at NAIA on January 30.

During a random inspection, it was discovered that it contained shabu.

“Nakuha natin yung package through random x-ray inspection natin dito sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport. We conducted regularly and nakita nga namin, binuksan siya ng Bureau of Customs examiner and yun nakita yung crystalline substance and subsequently pinacheck natin siya sa PDEA laboratory and after which we secure the approval, authority to conduct controlled delivery para dito,” ani Javier.

The suspects were arrested at his condominium in Makati past five o’clock Monday afternoon.

The Korean is 38 years old while his Pinay girlfriend is 25 years old.

“Inamin nila na sa kanila ang package and ni received nila ito properly with the signature of the consignee,” said Javier.

But they denied that they knew the contents of the package were drugs.

The suspects also refused to give a statement.

PDEA has identified the sender of the package and is contacting its counterpart in France for its identity.

The shabu weighing 255 grams is worth P1.7 million. It was hidden inside an antique telephone.

“It was concealed sa isang antique na phone, pinasok siya sa loob tapos yung loob niya may mga cords and parang baterya,” said Javier.

The Korean and his girlfriend will be charged with violation of Section 5 or Importation of Illegal Drugs of RA 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

This year, according to PDEA/NAIADITG, they have already confiscated three drugs from NAIA’s controlled delivery.

First on January 11 where 13 kilos of shabu were sent to a Nigerian national living in Las Piñas.

On January 13, the PDEA/NAIADITG also confiscated 200 grams of shabu from South Africa that was received by a Filipino in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

They have been charged, according to the PDEA.

The PDEA assured that they will intensify the inspection of packages entering the country.
