Justice called for farmer Alberto Delos Reyes killed by a cop

After almost a month, Jennifer Delos Reyes still finds it difficult to accept what happened to her husband Alberto Delos Reyes at the hands of a policeman in Buenavista town.

Alberto was killed by Police Cpl Jay Anthony Custodio in anti-illegal logging activity in Sitio Pag-asa, Brgy. Caigangan, in the said town on July 30.

Jennifer has already filed a murder case against the police officer. According to the PNP, Custodio is under restrictive custody at the Marinduque Provincial Police Office.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News with Jennifer on Wednesday afternoon, she said justice would make her feel better.

“Ito po ay medyo ano pa rin po hindi pa rin maano ang sitwasyon, hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin maka-move-on, syempre po hustisya pa rin po ang inaano namin sa pagkamatay ng asawa ko,” she said.

Jennifer accused Custodio of shooting her husband Alberto Delos Reyes because he was mistaken for an illegal logger.

The police claimed responsibility for the shooting, but according to a statement released by the PNP, based on the suspect’s statement, self-defense allegedly happened because instead of surrendering, Alberto Delos Reyes allegedly attacked Custodio with a mental attack.

Jennifer is now worried because the incident seems to have affected her 10-year-old son.

“Kagabi po siya sir nagsisisigaw, umiiyak … nagiging mainitin po ang ulo niya nagiging palaaway po siyang bata. Hindi naman po siya ganun dati,” she said.

Somehow, she was relieved when she learned of the announcement by PNP Chief Gen Guillermo Eleazar about the administrative case filed against Custodio.

According to the statement, Custodio has been subjected to a pre-charge investigation by the Provincial Internal Affairs Service.

“Inatasan ko na ang Provincial Internal Affairs Service na tingnang mabuti ang insidenteng ito. Sa ngayon, hayaan nating gumulong ang imbestigasyon sa kaso,” said Eleazar.

Eleazar added that the truth would come out, and there will be justice for the victim’s family.

Something Jennifer is thankful for.

“Nagpapasalamat po kami kasi nagkakaroon po ng linaw po,” she said.

Custodio’s former police chief, Lt. Marson Lontoc, is also facing administrative charges.
