Jillian Robredo did not say ‘let me educate you’ in Baguio

Vice President Leni Robredo’s youngest daughter Jillian Robredo did not really tell a man, “let me educate you,” while campaigning at the Baguio City Public Market on April 26.

This is in contrast to the captioning of spreading spliced or truncated videos on social media. This allegedly caused the man to shout, “Huwag niyo akong sungit-sungitan nang ganyan. Dayuhan ka lang dito, Igorot kami.”

But in the more than 5-minute original video from which the spliced clip was taken, Jillian can be seen still taking a selfie with a supporter when she hears the loud voice of such a man. No one in the video can hear Jillian say the phrase, “Let me educate you.”

In another video of the incident taken from a different angle, it can be seen that some people had difficulty passing due to the crowd, including the man who shouted.

He confronted and rebuked Jillian’s group and supporters. When approached by a member, the man then said, “Huwag mo akong sungit-sungitan ng ganyan. Dayuhan ka lang dito, Igorot kami.” User @michellejoyce uploaded the said video on Twitter.

“Baguio is a peaceful place whose historical experience in election campaigns has been a source of genuine friendship not just among us local candidates but much more so when visiting candidates come here for good-intentioned engagements,” he added.

Robredo replied, “Thank you very much, Mayor Benjie, but there is no need to apologize.”

“This unfortunate incident does not diminish our love and respect for the people of Baguio,” he added in a tweet.
