Isko Moreno answers Duterte’s comments on aid distribution in Manila

Instead of fighting, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso showed only achievements after President Rodrigo Duterte’s taunts and threats regarding his distribution of lockdown aid to their city.

On Monday night, Duterte said he would remove the power of a city in Metro Manila to distribute P1,000 aid among the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) because “they don’t know how to organize.”

“Iyong kay [MMDA] Chairman [Benhur] Abalos, may isa akong siyudad diyan na hindi ko bibigyan ng power to distribute ‘yung ayuda simply because in so many instances, they cannot organize a… Wala, talagang every time,” said Duterte.

“Nakita ko nga sa Facebook kanina, lahat nang naka-bikini ang g*** tapos may isang picture pa doon na sinisilip niya ‘yung ari niya. Iyan ang gusto ninyo? Ang training… parang call boy. Naghuhubad, nagpi-picture, naka-bikini tapos ‘yung garter tinatanggal niya.”

Although Duterte did not mention Isko Moreno’s name, he was the only mayor in Metro Manila known to play sexy roles back then.

Following Duterte’s hints, Domagoso immediately posted various certificates of recognition when it comes to the “efficient” and “quick completion” of aid distribution, something awarded to them by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“Good morning Manila! Congratulations Dir. Re Fugoso and All our staff from Manila Social welfare. Keep it up and keep safe. Manila, God first!” said Mayor Isko on Tuesday.

Domagoso also showed such certificates to the media when asked if he thought the president was targeting him.

It’s only been a few days since Domagoso said a personality spreading fear so suddenly people who wanted to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in Manila suddenly crowded. He released it after Duterte said that “those without vaccines will not be let out of the house.”

“Unang-una, kasalanan na nga naming gobyerno. Bakit? E dapat yung bakuna noon pa dumating, e ngayon, natakot pa ata ang mga tao kasi may mga kiyaw kiyaw pa na ipakukulong sila, ‘di sila bibigyan ng ayuda ‘pag hindi bakunado, hindi sila palalabasin,” Mayor Isko said.

“I did not make that statement; somebody did. That generate[d] fear,” Isko Moreno said.

Isko Moreno is known as No. 2 in the previous Pulse Asia Survey regarding the presidential position in 2022, following presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
