Bureau of Immigration nabs overstaying German national in GenSan

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its intelligence agents in Mindanao arrested a foreign national who face deportation for violating Philippine immigration laws.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified the alien as German national Jurgen Helmut Schumacher, 69, who was arrested in coordination with the Philippine National Police Station 4 in a residential area in Brgy. San Isidro, General Santos City last April 21.

According to Manahan, Morente issued a mission order for the alien’s arrest after a complaint for undesirability were filed against him with the BI.

“Our Mindanao Intelligence Task Group (MITG) headed by Melody Penelope Gonzales immediately conducted surveillance and investigation upon receiving the order,” said Manahan. “The subject will undergo deportation proceedings on charges of violating our immigration laws and for being an undesirable alien,” Manahan said.

It was learned that Schumacher’s deportation was sought by his estranged Filipino wife who accused him of committing domestic violence and for concubinage.

The complaint allegedly asked the BI to deny her husband’s application for a permanent visa as she has not agreed to file a petition for issuance of such, and reported that she has been threatened, as well as mentally and emotionally abused by her husband.

It was also gathered that a case for violating the law on violence against women was filed by the complainant against Schumacher before the court.

Apart from the case for undesirability, Schumacher also faces a case for overstaying in the country.

Bureau of Immigration arrests alleged Nigerian scammer

The Bureau of Immigration reported the arrest of a Nigerian who was allegedly involved in the cyber-hacking incident in December last year.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the Nigerian as 27-year-old Henry Chidi Obioma who was arrested by BI intelligence agents last April 21.

Obioma was arrested in a residential area in Las Pinas City after the BI received information that he was working without the proper visa and permit, and was involved in the online banking fraud that affected at least 700 clients of a major banking institution.

During the arrest, Obioma failed to present any immigration documents, making him an undocumented alien.

“Scammers and fraudsters are not welcome in the country,” said Morente. “These aliens will definitely arrested, deported, and blacklisted for being undesirable,” he warned.
