Imee Marcos says she is not targeting Senate president post

Senator Imee Marcos, President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s sister, announced on Friday that she does not aspire to be the Senate president or take any other position in the 19th Congress.

Maraming trabahong hinaharap,” Marcos said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

The senator underlined that she would be Bongbong’s “super ate” in the Senate.

(I’m just the ‘super older sister.’ That’s enough. There’s no need for another title if not help from the legislative side.)

Wala na masyadong alitan between the two branches of government,” she added.

(It is probably no secret that President [Rodrigo] Duterte has problems in the legislature, in the Senate, so hopefully, smooth-sailing now. No more veto, no more rivalry. Blue Ribbons somehow talks and investigate thoroughly. There is no more conflict between the two branches of government.)

Senator Sonny Angara recently revealed that Imee Marcos and Senator-elect Loren Legarda had indicated an interest in becoming Senate president pro tempore, the upper chamber’s second-highest office.

Apart from that, Angara claimed that Imee was eyeing the chairmanship of the Senate Finance Committee, which he now chairs.

According to Rule X, Section 13 (4) of the Senate Rules, the Senate finance committee is responsible for all matters relating to funds for the National Government’s expenditures and payment of public indebtedness; auditing of the National Government’s accounts and expenses; claims against the government; intergovernmental revenue sharing; and, in general, all matters relating to public expenditures.
